We took our 3 year old to the circus for the first time yesterday

And after getting past the overwhelming feeling of pure chaos,

She loved it!

The whole show was just mind blowing!

Went sledding with the kids at the hills today

We got a ton of snow!

Believe it or not

This was the Hubby's first time sledding......

Talk about livin under a rock for thirty somethin years!

An Amazing Place

We finally got the chance to make it over to City Light, the church I was saying I wanted to check out. What an amazing place, from the moment we walked in you could feel the difference from all the other churches we've attended. I think it is safe to say that this will be our church. If you get a chance, I would highly suggest stopping by or check out the website www.citylightnyc.com. Amazing people, amazing music, amazing pastor, amazing spirit!

The Anniversary?

It's four years ago today that my father died of what started out as lung cancer. This morning I woke up and called it an anniversary while I was speaking to my husband, he quickly corrected me and told me not to call it that because it wasn't something to celebrate.

My father was a great person, not even close to perfect, but still he was great. He was a very caring dad and an even better "Grampy" and he certainly had his own way of showing it.

I thought a lot about what my husband said today, and I decided that I will continue to consider this an anniversary.

My reasoning for this is simple,

My father was very sick, he suffered and endured a lot of pain, he got to the point that he didn't recognize or trust his own family.

Point being....... four years ago today my father was released, he was set free from a life that was painful,

a life that nobody should have to experience.

So I consider today the anniversary of the day my father was given the chance to be himself again,

a chance to be the dad that I remember and the Grampy my kids remember.

It's the anniversary that he was released from living life as someone we did not recognize,

and the chance for him to live on in our memories as the funny, caring person that he was.

I love you Dad!

Church?

We are trying out a new church tomorrow. I'm excited and for some reason a little nervous. I've never really had a church I would consider my own, we've tried a few but none of them felt right. I need the church to feel right so that I wanna go every Sunday. This one seems promising, I'll let you know tomorrow.

Reality sets in

It's weird not knowing how to act around someone that you know so well. I don't want to do the wrong thing, say something offensive or knock him off this new path he's on. I'm sure everything will be back to normal soon. I have to say, I've really learned a lot these past days, about people's feelings, people's perspectives, about trust and appreciation. I truly believe all things happen for a reason and good things can come from unfortunate "SITUATIONS". (that's what we say in our house now, we don't have problems, we only have situations.)

He's home, she's happy, I'm happy, he's happy. Family visiting was good, very enlightening. He seems like the Eric I met many years ago, the calm, easy going, patient, playful, happy Eric. I missed that man. Make no mistake, I'm not stupid and I will not live life with blinders on. We have a long road ahead and I am ready for the fight. The biggest and most important change that I notice is how he views things. It's not a selfish point of view, he sees our side of the story now, everything is not all about Eric. I can't expect or ask for anymore than that and I'm ok with that.

Day 5

I have a nervous feeling in my stomach. I visit him in a few hours to attend some family therapy sessions. I'm not sure how much I really want to say in front of a group of people. I'm just gonna follow the same words I always preach to him " Just be honest and everything will be fine. " Do I really believe that? Wish me luck!

She Misses Her Daddy

They always say it's the little things you miss, this has proven to be true in our house. Our 3 year old has this WIERD thing she likes to do with her daddy........ EVERY TIME she poops, she runs to get him so he can look at it, then she runs back into the bathroom and stands in front of the toilet till he comes in, and finally, she jumps out of the way as if he doesn't know what's in the toilet and yells POOPIE! He responds by telling her it looks like little chicken nuggets. Sorry for anyone that is offended by this topic. The point of my story..... since her dad has been gone she suggested that we don't flush the toilet, instead we should save all the POOP till daddy gets back home. Obviously this is not something we could do, or something we would want to post pictures of, so instead, here are some pictures of her practicing for dance class.

It's 2:02 in the morning. I got some scary news today. They are sending him home on Monday! Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him home, but I'm not sure he's ready. He sounds scared, I'm scared. I pray everything is o.k. when he gets back.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from me and he sounds like the same weight has been lifted from him. I am amazed each day by his strength. Can't wait for Sunday (family visiting day)!

I just spoke to him on the phone, he sounds amazing. I still miss him like crazy, but I will be ok now. Thank You God for the grip, I will try my best to keep things in perspective and focus on the positive. I can see our future and it's a beautiful picture!

This was not an easy day at all. From the moment we got up, there were on and off emotional breakdowns. The drive out to the Hamptons, which usually seems very long, flew by in what felt like 15 minutes. He stayed strong when I dropped him off, I think mostly for my benefit. The night is hard, I'm lonely and I want my husband. The baby is already asking when we are picking up daddy. It feels like torture. Here are some photos from our anniversary night.

The Countdown

Tomorrow my posts will be starting the countdown. I will be counting the 28 days until my husband returns from rehab. I have mixed feelings about him going but I'm focusing on a better life once he returns. I can not express how very proud I am of him and how much I love him. The days will not move fast enough for me!

He sees someone who ONLY serves in a restaurant, I see a man who works and still saves time for his family. He sees someone who rents his wife's ex-husband's house, I see a man confident enough to allow my daughter to have the best of both worlds. He sees someone who has gained weight and doesn't look the way he used to, I see a beautiful man that still gives me butterflies when I look at him. He sees someone that is weak and can not help himself, I see a man that is brave enough to ask for help. I'm not sure who he sees, but I see my husband and I love what I see.

Have you ever felt like your whole world was unraveling in front of your face and for some reason, you do nothing about it? I knew from the moment I woke up that today would be let's not say bad, I'll choose to call it an off day because there are a lot of people worse off than me and I refuse to forget that like I used to but any way, I knew it was gonna be an off day. I'm not sure how long I've been ignoring my reality for, but today it hit me, it hit hard and it hurt! I'm trying to be real adult about things, so I'm sorting through the overwhelming amount of feelings that I'm having one at a time and trying to catch myself each time I'm about to lose control. I need to find the strength to get through this time and come out on the other side with some of my dignity left.....not for me, for my kids.

There are improvements! We have lower temperatures without cooling pads, we have level blood pressure, we have a white cell count of an amazing 20,000, and we have PEE! Keep praying for baby Gavin. Our prayers are being heard!

I have many plans for this new coming year, haven't started implementing any of them yet, but give me a chance, it just got started. I was off on new year's eve for the first time in about 8 years. Went to dinner with Eric and no kids, that was a nice change. After dinner we celebrated at a friend's house with all the kids. The ball dropped, they banged on pots and pans, they lit sparklers, they ate pigs in a blanket and they passed out. It was a good night.

The Almost Perfect Christmas

It was a good Christmas, a healthy Christmas, a calm Christmas. Things worked out o.k. even when I felt it was hopeless. ( thanks mom :) ) My family was happy. I got to see cousins that I haven't seen for 15 years. That was a little weird but still, it was a good Christmas. I miss u dad! Merry Christmas Everyone.

It snowed all night. We got a little more than a foot and a half. We've already been out to play, dug out the car, attempted some snow angels and sipped some hot cocoa. I think I've had enough for the day.

The Unexpected White Christmas

The greatly anticipated first snow is here. A nice surprise for Christmas but we're getting more than I expected. It kinda puts a halt on the shopping plans, which is not good news for a procrastinator like myself. It should make for some great shots later on though. I'll have to dig out my mittens : )

I would just like to say that I will never take my life for granted again. I'm not saying there won't be the occasional complaint, because anyone who knows me is surely thinking... IMPOSSIBLE! But I will not forget for a single day that I am lucky to be able to do my day to day activities. I can not believe it has taken me so long to realize that!
